Nuno Espírito Santo is currently in charge of Tottenham Hotspur, but is unlikely to retain the position much longer after his side suffered five league defeats in seven matches.
TuttoMercatoWeb came out with a report on Sunday, stating the north London club are ‘working to close’ the appointment of Antonio Conte.
Fabio Paratici looked at the ex-Chelsea manager in the summer, before appointing Nuno. Conte was not in favour of joining Spurs then, but ‘this could be the right time’ for him to say ‘yes’, reports Gianluca Di Marzio.
It’s claimed the Premier League side are ‘reflecting’ on Nuno’s future and as things stand, he is ‘close to being sacked’. The ‘decisive day’ should be Monday and if he’s shown the exit door, Tottenham will then ‘press for Conte’, who is top of their list.
There were no conditions for the Italian to arrive in London back in the summer, but ‘now it is different’. The 52-year-old ‘would be evaluating’ Spurs approach differently this time around.
Conte will need the assurance of an important technical and economic project to say ‘yes’. To convince him, Tottenham must table a multi-year contract and the ‘will to strengthen the team’ to make it ‘more competitive’.
The website states: ‘These are decisive hours, tomorrow could be the right day for Conte’s yes to the Spurs’.
Sky Italia have echoed Gianluca Di Marzio’s claims and add Paratici made ‘new contact with Conte in the ‘last few hours’. The latter ‘could accept the offer’ from Spurs.
Having rejected Tottenham in the summer, the coach is ‘thinking about it concretely’ now. The ‘next few hours’ could be decisive for Conte to say ‘yes’ to the Premier League side.
