While there’s always been rumblings of a potential Italy return for Matteo Darmian ever since he transferred to Manchester United from Torino, it’s never been as prominent as it is at the moment.

With AS Roma, Napoli and Juventus all said to be after him, the 28-year-old is likely to have a nice choice to make ahead of him if Manchester United allow him to leave.

Corriere dello Sport on Tuesday explain Eusebio Di Francesco’s side are already pushing to convince Darmian to ignore the Naples and Turin sides, with Monchi in contact with the player’s agent, who is trying to ‘unblock’ his client’s situation at Old Trafford.

However, before anything happens, Roma need to get rid of Bruno Peres, who is of interest to Benfica and Galatasaray but for whom they are yet to receive offers.

The aim is to ‘tidy’ the squad over the coming months, pushing out the deadwood as well as strengthening it in equal measure in order to compete on all fronts, including the Champions League as they prepare to face Shakhtar Donetsk in the first knockout round, even if Darmian would be cup tied for the competition.
