Marseille’s Michael Amir Murillo has emerged as a target for Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

That’s according to Panama journalist José Miguel Domínguez, and he reported about Newcastle and Aston Villa’s interest to El Marcador TV, relayed by Fútbol Centroamérica.

The right-back joined the Ligue 1 club from Anderlecht in August 2023 and has been a regular even after Roberto De Zerbi took charge last summer.

Recent claims have stated the 29-year-old has been attracting interest from the Premier League.

According to José Miguel Domínguez, Newcastle and Aston Villa are the two clubs closely following the Panama international. The two Premier League clubs are ‘fighting’ to secure his services in the summer window.

Last month, the fullback extended his contract until 2028 and Transfermarkt values him at €9m. There’s no mention Marseille’s request, but the report states both Newcastle and the Villans have ‘more than enough capital’ to sign him.

Eddie Howe used Tino Livramento as the first choice right-back this season with Kieran Trippier as a backup. The 34-year-old’s contract expires in 2026, but if he were to leave after this season, Murillo could replace him at Newcastle.

Unai Emery has the right-back position well covered with Matty Cash and January signing Andrés García. Unless one of them were to leave, it wouldn’t make sense for the Villans to consider this signing.
