Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has revealed he hopes to be fit in “two or three months” as he battles back from a cruciate ligament rupture.

The Uruguayan midfielder has been speaking to Telemundo in his homeland, relayed by ESPN, about his efforts to return from the major injury as soon as possible.

The 25-year-old underwent surgery earlier this year after being forced off with the serious knee injury in a 4-1 defeat to Leicester back in February.

That ruled him out for the remainder of this campaign and has already seen him spend 200 days on the treatment table, missing 21 games for Tottenham in the process.

He’s not expected to return to action until the end of August at the earliest and will be spending this summer stepping up his rehabilitation in a bid to get to work under new Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou as soon as possible.

Those efforts are already underway, and he revealed he’s now doing double shifts, and avoiding flights, in an effort to get back to his best.

“The injury was at a time when I was very well, but the truth is that I do not change what happened for anything,” he said.

“I was missing a lot at the family level and everything that I am experiencing with my daughter and my girlfriend in these four months is priceless. That is also why my recovery time has passed so quickly and I am doing so well.

“It’s a long injury, one of the most difficult in football, but the truth is that I’m having such a good time with my family… I train the same every day, I do double shifts two or three times a week.

“I brought the club’s physiotherapist to Uruguay; we continue working and my knee is doing very well. I didn’t set a lap time, but I hope in two or three months to be at least gaining a few minutes again.”
