Tottenham are very much a possible destination for Kylian Mbappe, according to L’Equipe on Monday.
The French newspaper are taking a look at several Monaco players and pushing interest from mainly Premier League clubs, which brings Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham into it.
With Monaco facing Manchester City in the Champions League this week, an ideal opportunity is presented for players to impress, and transfer rumours could subsequently be given a big boost.
L’Equipe say Tottenham are one of the clubs who ‘have the means’ to ‘line up the zeroes’ and sign Mbappe from Monaco. Arsenal are once again also linked and are probably the London club linked most, but there’s a genuine assumption that Tottenham can compete with their rivals for Mbappe and others.
However, L’Equipe’s estimated price of €60m to €80m would appear too much for Pochettino and probably Wenger too. What makes things different is that a deal would be very much weighted on future payments and clauses, with the initial outlay much less.
Rivaling Tottenham and Arsenal will be Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona and Real Madrid. It would be something of a coup for Pochettino and Spurs.
