Toying with a three at the back formation for a chunk of this season, it will be interesting to see if Mauricio Pochettino targets a new central defender in the upcoming transfer window.

After all, Eric Dier looked on the verge of transitioning into a defensive midfielder, but if Pochettino decides to keep his 3421 formation on his rotational board of tactics, a more depth in the position could be needed.

Beyond Kevin Wimmer, who could end up getting restless at his lack of minutes, there isn’t much experienced backup to Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Dier, with Cameron Carter-Vickers the young up and coming talent.

This is why a link to Inter Milan centre-back Jeison Murillo isn’t too left field these days.

It’s FCInterNews who claim to have the information that Tottenham have been looking at the Colombian defender with a potential view to a transfer this summer, to an extent that a few enquiries have been made regarding his potential availability.

Before you scoff at the idea of a fan website having inside information regarding their club, it’s worth pointing out that things seem to work differently in Italy, with a lot of them proving relatively reliable, even close to clubs, and getting a lot of exclusives of their own.

We’re not saying that Murillo will 100% be joining Tottenham in the summer, but it’s worth keeping an eye out on any further claims.

The 24-year-old defender has made 33 appearances for the Serie A club this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist for his teammates.
