Last month, reports coming out of England and Argentina explained Tottenham Hotspur are looking at Nicolás González.
After managing 14 goals and three assists for VfB Stuttgart in the second division last season, he has six goals and two assists in 13 Bundesliga appearances this term.
This week’s edition of SportBild has a report on the 22-year-old and it also includes comments from the player himself.
Despite signing a new contract until 2024 last November, he admitted there’s a ’50:50’ chance for him to represent his current employer next season.
It’s claimed bigger clubs than VfL Wolfsburg have long had the Argentine on their list and this includes Spurs and Juventus. Borussia Dortmund also get a mention.
Wolfsburg showed interest last summer, but they couldn’t offer more than €15m, when Stuttgart were then demanding €20m plus bonuses.
Former Stuttgart director Michael Reschke brought González to the club in 2018 and he’s aware the player’s valuation has now increased.
“I’m very sure that VfB Stuttgart would not even sell for 20 million euros at the moment. He cost around seven million euros and has developed very well,” Reschke said.
SportBild doesn’t mention any figures in their report and only state Tottenham have long had him on their transfer list.
González primarily operates up front, but can also be deployed in the wide positions. His focus for this season is to match last season’s tally of 14 goals.
