Strasbourg youngster Diego Moreira has continued to express his regret at deciding to move to Chelsea, admitting he didn’t want to leave Benfica.

O Jogo cover comments from the winger made in an interview with Instafoot on YouTube, in which he admits he regrets his move to Chelsea is in 2023.

He joined the Blues as a youngster from Benfica’s B team after coming through the youth ranks at the Portuguese giants.

Moura failed to make any kind of impact at Stamford Bridge, though, managing just one 45-minute appearance in the first team and nine appearances work 605 minutes for their U21s during his time at the club.

He headed to Lyon in September 2023 before then joining Strasbourg, who are also owned by Chelsea owners BlueCo, in an €8.5m deal last summer.

He’s been impressing for the French side since, with two goals and seven assists to his name in 29 games in Ligue 1 this season and 85% of the available minutes played.

The winger has already admitted in a separate interview that he was glad to get away from Chelsea because he felt his career was stagnating, now he admits he wishes he’d never left Benfica in the first place.

“To be honest, I didn’t want to leave, but then, in football, we have to think not only about ourselves, but also about our family,” he said.

“There were negotiations, but unfortunately, they didn’t work out. Football is like that, there are no hard feelings.

I carry Benfica in my heart. It was three years, three years that changed my life, because, thanks to Benfica, I went to Chelsea. If it had been at another club, maybe I wouldn’t have gone.”
