There’s a growing theme in the Italian media which suggests Tottenham Hotspur will be on the lookout for bargain signings in the coming windows, rather than raiding Serie A for big-money moves.
That’s something which has gradually appeared after the initial excitement of Antonio Conte moving to Spurs, and perhaps displays a more realistic plan for the coming months.
Should the manager want multiple signings, and he usually does, then the budget isn’t going to stretch very far, with claims of there being €200m+ now somehow available perhaps wide of the mark.
That brings us all back to players like Franck Kessie, with the AC Milan midfielder’s contract expiring at the end of the current season. The Rossoneri have been working to try and get a renewal, although that increasingly looks like an uphill task.
Italian journalist Stefano Donati believes Spurs are right in the picture and is quoted by Calciomercato as saying: “Tottenham are in full swing and can also mock PSG. Conte already wanted him at the time of Inter, when the exchange with Vecino was proposed.
“Milan have now resigned themselves to losing him, but to sell him in January would be a wrong choice. Compensation would not be adequate, not even to get a replacement worthy of him. At that point we might as well keep him to try to win the Scudetto, even if we have to lose him for nothing.”
