Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Cristian Stellini as acting head coach after parting ways with Antonio Conte on March 26th.

Less than a week before the Italian’s sacking, Luis Enrique was linked to Spurs and it was also stated there was contact between the two parties.

Sport now provide an update on Tottenham’s interest in appointing the 52-year-old as Conte’s permanent successor.

The former Barcelona boss has been without a job since he stepped down as Spain manager after the World Cup. The Premier League awaits him with open arms, where Tottenham and Chelsea ‘stand out’ as the two most likely destinations.

With regards to Spurs, it’s claimed they ‘dream’ of the 52-year-old becoming their new manager. Sport further state the north London club put Enrique’s name on the table even before they parted ways with Conte.

Conte’s departure has left the Spurs dressing room ‘crying out for a coach’ that goes in hand with what the club chairman, Daniel Levy, wants. Tottenham and Chelsea are the two ‘open routes’ available for the Spaniard.

The Blues are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season, while Spurs are still firmly in contention. Tottenham are currently in fourth spot, level on points with fifth placed Manchester United, who have two games in hand.
