Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret’s performances this season have drawn attention from many clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.
The Serie A side are leading the league table and Meret has been one of the standout players for them this season, keeping 17 clean sheets and conceding 29 goals from 37 matches in all competitions.
According to NapoliCalcioLive, the 26-year-old’s displays have convinced Tottenham to make him their first-choice stopper next season.
Hugo Lloris is the current No.1 at the north London club and they plan to move him to the bench to make way for the Italy international.
At the end of this season, many clubs are expected to knock on Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis’ door to ask for information about Meret. His sale would see the Italian club collect a figure that could ‘seriously exceed’ €40m.
The price quoted is ‘absolutely not scary’ for Tottenham, Meret is said to be ‘loved’ at Spurs, and the club want to ‘anticipate’ the competition.
Although Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti would oppose the goalkeeper’s sale, the report states the idea of cashing in on Meret should be considered by his club in the summer. His deal lasts until 2024 and Napoli have an option to extend it for 12 months.
