Since joining AS Monaco in January of this year, Brazilian fullback Vanderson has had impressive performances for the French side, and has even been linked to an early exit from the club.
It’s well known that the player could have had another destination, since more clubs had been interested in taking him from Brazil back then. And according to French outlet Onze Mondial, Tottenham Hotspur were one of them.
This statement was made in an interview they feature with Vanderson this week. There, there was a question about how easy it is for Brazilians to ‘catch the eye’ of European clubs, with them asking him if there was ‘concrete contact’ with big sides.
“Yes, it’s true. There were interests from English, Italian and Russian clubs. But when Monaco arrived, I knew a lot of Brazilians had succeeded here. And with an ambitious project, it was the right club to achieve my career goals.”
It turns out that when Vanderson mentioned those countries, Onze Mondial added that the likes of Tottenham, Milan and Spartak Moscow are those who wanted him. That seems to be their own information.
There are a couple of reasons why Tottenham may regret not having signed him in back in January. Firstly, because Monaco landed him for only €11m, and he’d cost a lot more now. Secondly, because many European clubs are said to be chasing him, with Manchester United and Newcastle United both linked this month.
