Just because a manager features on a club’s shortlist doesn’t mean he’ll definitely get the job, but it certainly increases his chances of sitting on their bench the following season.
Searching for employment ever since his dismissal from Paris Saint-Germain, Laurent Blanc has taken his time, waiting for the ideal opportunity to get back into the swing of things, and that could be taking over at Chelsea.
With Antonio Conte increasingly looking on his way out from Stamford Bridge, the Frenchman has an opportunity to try something new, having previously managed Bordeaux, France and the Ligue 1 leaders, but never in England.
The first mention we saw about Blanc being of interest to Chelsea was from TuttoMercatoWeb, who claimed the Premier League side were ‘surprisingly’ making moves to sign him.
Then came France Football, who stated the Blues weren’t ‘hiding their interest’ in the former Manchester United defender.
Now, we have a third source, with L’Equipe du Soir last Friday corroborating these claims, confirming that Blanc was indeed on Chelsea’s shortlist should Antonio Conte be shown the exit door.
There’s never this much smoke without fire, especially when it’s coming from three different places.
While he might not get the job ultimately, it shows Roman Abramovich is leaving no stone unturned.
