Newcastle United are close to finalising their move for Alexander Isak, but there are ‘fringes’ on the deal that need to be finalised.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who explain why the deal is being held up despite the player being pictured on Tyneside for a medical.

They report that ‘a few final details’ need to be sorted out on the deal, although they are not issues that could see it collapsing.

The agreement between Newcastle and Real Sociedad is considered as ‘history’, but the Magpies are taking the ‘utmost care’ to do everything properly and ‘that is why it’s taking a while’ for the official confirmation.

Isak has completed his medical, though, after travelling to Newcastle yesterday and arriving at the club early yesterday afternoon.

The deal will be closed for €70m plus €5m in ‘not unreasonable variables’ while the Spanish side will also hold a 10% clause on any future sale. The striker will sign a five-year deal at St James Park.

The newspaper says Isak was presented to the Real Sociedad squad yesterday morning to say his goodbyes before travelling to England, even at that point the move was seen as a ‘done deal’ by all involved.

The club are disappointed to see him leave but Isak had spent the last two days accompanied by Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth and their head of recruitment Steve Nickson working on the deal and La Real accepted their proposal.

That is why things have picked up quickly and there is a chance he will go straight into Eddie Howe’s team for Sunday’s clash with Wolves.

Newcastle are certainly working to make that a possibility and as soon as they are ‘covered by the legal framework’ he will join his new teammates in training.
