Over the past few days, claims from Austria have covered Red Bull Salzburg’s desire to sign Leeds United’s Maximilian Wöber in the winter market.

On Sunday, Red Bull Salzburg appointed Rouven Schröder as their new managing director of sport and he hasn’t ruled out a move for the defender.

On Wednesday, Salzburger Nachrichten stated the 26-year-old is on the verge of joining the Austrian club and only details are missing for them to agree a deal with Leeds.

Journalist Peter Linden, writing for his own website, plays down this claim and gives his take on the case.

Linden claims Red Bull Salzburg haven’t yet started negotiations with the player’s agent or Daniel Farke’s side.

Red Bull Salzburg are looking to sign a new centre-back next month, and the Leeds player is in their target list. The Austria international spent more than three years at the club before joining the Whites in January 2023.

The journalist states Red Bull Salzburg have expressed interest in the Leeds player and he won’t be against the idea of returning to his former club, and ‘that’s all there is to it’.

Claims elsewhere in Austria have talked about optimism over Red Bull Salzburg signing Wöber in January, but Linden, for now, has gone against the tide.

Schröder joined Red Bull Salzburg last weekend and may need some time before opening talks with parties to sign Wöber.
