Back in February, Sunderland sacked Michael Beale, two months after appointing him as Tony Mowbray’s successor.
Mike Dodds was the caretaker manager for the last three months and the Black Cats have to appoint a permanent manager for the new season.
Sunderland are showing interest in Bayern Munich U19 manager René Marić, according to TZ in Germany.
The Austrian arrived at the Bundesliga side in November and was promoted to their U19 side in February. The Bavarian club’s bosses are very satisfied with Marić’s work and would like to renew his contract as his current deal expires in the summer.
Sunderland’s interest is mentioned when discussing the 31-year-old’s future. A decision hasn’t been made yet, without making it clear if this is from Marić, Bayern or both. As well as the Championship side, Leeds United have also shown interest in him but that was presumably a while ago.
Prior to joining Bayern, he worked as an assistant in Austria, Germany and England, and hasn’t managed a first team yet.
Marić was Jesse Marsch’s assistant at Leeds United [when they were in the Premier League last season] and it’s not made clear if Sunderland are looking at him for their youth or senior team.
With a deal expiring in the summer and interest from England, both Marić and Bayern will have to make the final decision in the coming weeks.
