Caner Erkin has given his reasons why he decided to sign for Inter Milan despite the attention of other clubs, including Stoke City. The Turkey international was today officially presented as an Inter Milan player after months of speculation over his future.
TMW have reported on comments Erkin made during his press conference today when he was asked about why he joined the Serie A side over the other interested clubs. The fullback revealed the chance to play for a big European club was a factor, and he was glad he’d finally signed for the club after previous attempts.
Erkin also said the chance to work with Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini was another reason why he’s headed to the San Siro.
“Let’s talk about a big European club, finally I signed after past attempts. Obviously the presence of Mancini was very important,” said Erkin.
We covered reports back in March that Stoke City were keen to sign Erkin, but faced a battle with Liverpool and Inter Milan for the left back. Erkin ran his contract down with Turkish giants Fenerbahce, and subsequently was available on a free transfer.
However, in recent weeks it seemed Inter Milan would land the player once the Euros ended.
