Swedish youngster and incoming Tottenham signing Lucas Bergvall has insisted he doesn’t regret his decision to join the club over Barcelona, having been very impressed by Ange Postecoglou.

The 18-year-old has been speaking to Svenska Fans about his decision to join Spurs and the good feeling he still has about the move a month after making it.

He is set to join Tottenham in a €10m deal at the beginning of July after the London side managed to wrap up a deal for the highly rated youngster earlier this year.

They had found themselves in a battle for the midfielder’s signature with Barcelona, the two club having fought off competition from around Europe to be in contention for Bergvall’s signing.

The battle tipped either way over the course of several weeks, with Bergvall seemingly deciding on Barcelona at one point, and reports in Spain confidently predicting as such, before then changing his mind last minute and going to Tottenham instead.

He’s the latest of a growing list of young players to have been snapped up by Tottenham in the last couple of years, with the focus there now seemingly on signing and developing young players for the future under Postecoglou.

Whether Bergvall can be a success remains to be seen but he’s very much looking forward to the switch and has no regrets over turning down Barcelona to join them.

“As I have said before it was very much 50/50,” he said.

“An incredibly difficult choice with two really good clubs. But I chose Tottenham mainly because of the gut feeling and the feelings I got when I met the club.

“Now, a month after I’ve made the decision, it still feels just as good. It feels like I’ve landed very well.

“Tottenham have been very good in their part and leave quite a lot up to Djurgården, because they know I want to focus here. It’s been a serious half year, so it feels really good actually.

“He’s (Postecoglou) an incredibly warm person to begin with and a fantastic coach so I’ve talked to him a few times. He’s very fun but I’ve mainly had contact with the sports chief, a lot of emails.”
