Back in October the Spanish media announced Raül Sanllehi would be leaving Barcelona and then joining Arsenal as Ivan Gazidis’s right hand man.
Sport reported Sanllehi would become Arsenal’s director of operations, and take up his role after leaving Barcelona in December. At the time it was easy to take the claims with a pinch of salt, because the Catalan media had been linking Sanllehi with the Premier League for a while.
Given his period at Barcelona has, especially most recently, not received universal praise from the club’s fans, and often quite the opposite, it seemed an optimistic outlook.
However, the claims have only grown in confidence and now it looks like the move could actually be on.
Mundo Deportivo report Sanllehi ‘left his club’ Barcelona early, yesterday to be exact, and is ‘Heading to the Emirates… to sign for Arsenal as the club’s new football director’.
The fan view of footballer directors can often be slightly off track given the lack of information shared about role and, therefore, responsibility. Should Sanllehi take up the Arsenal job then it’s sure every aspect of his potential role will be picked over for the next few months and beyond.
