Argentine journalist Germán García Grova, who works for TyC Sports, reports Southampton have ‘verbally agreed’ a deal to sign Wilfredo Caballero.
Reports in England had already stated the goalkeeper was an option for Southampton, as they look to add cover, and the TyC journalist adds that the contract will last until the end of the current season, with an option for a further campaign.
Caballero has been without a club since leaving Chelsea when his contract expired at the end of June. He’d been with the Blues since 2017, previously spending a few years as a back-up at Manchester City.
Alex McCarthy has picked up a hamstring injury, with Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl going public to share his unhappiness at the way the player handled the situation.
Caballero is 40-years-of-age and the Saints would be the seventh club of his long career.
