Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz has admitted he would like to leave the club and move back to the Premier League this summer.

The youngster has been speaking to D Sports Radio in his homeland about his time in England so far and his plans for the future, including a possible return to Argentina.

The 20-year-old joined Southampton in a €13.65m deal from Racing Club midway through the January transfer window and went on to establish himself as a key player for the Saints in the second half of the season.

A tally of four goals and two assists in 18 games in the league was an impressive haul for a youngster in his first season in England playing in a side mired in a relegation battle, which they eventually lost.

It means Alcaraz is likely to have plenty of admirers, particularly with an exodus expected at St Mary’s following their relegation, and he admits he would like to move on.

“I want to stay playing in the Premier League. The reality is that I want to keep learning in the league,” he said when asked on the subject.

It now remains to be seen whether he will be granted his wish, with Southampton likely to prove resistant to the subject.

A report at the end of last month indicated that Brighton were already hovering and thinking about a deal and that is a transfer which would make sense given the Seagulls’ well-established talent of developing South American stars for the future.

That report also stated Alcaraz was comfortable with the Saints but it seems that has now changed and he wants an immediate return to the Premier League.
