Any of Emiliano Martínez’s friends and family in Argentina will certainly be quite happy to read what the local version of Marca Argentina has to say about him today.
The outlet brings a story highlighting ‘his spectacular numbers to be one of the best in the Premier League’, claiming he should have a bright feature at Aston Villa.
Following Martinez’s performance against Arsenal, which was crucial for his side’s 1-0 win at the weekend, Marca states he only needed ‘a little confidence’, and proved that by being ‘a nightmare against his old team’.
More than just claiming he was able to stop the Gunners, the report goes further by insisting the 28-year-old could be a ‘legend’ at Villa Park.
Following a £15m move from Arsenal last summer, Martinez already has 21 appearances for Aston Villa in the Premier League. That goes with 25 goals conceded and 11 clean sheets.
Marca takes these numbers, added to the 75 saves he’s made so far, to say he’s about to become a legend for the club. That’s because he’s only five more matches from being Villa’s goalkeeper with most clean sheets in a PL season, and there’s plenty of time for that.
‘The Argentine has only needed half of the Premier season to confirm himself as one of the best goalkeepers in England,’ they say.
The outlet also claims that with his side being able to compete for a Europa League spot this season, Emiliano Martinez’s experience should be crucial for Villa to have bigger aspirations in the near future.
