Newcastle United’s Yankuba Minteh has been on loan at Feyenoord since last summer and has, at least overall, enjoyed an impressive season with the Dutch club.
The winger has managed 10 goals and four assists from 32 games, including two goals and an assist in his side’s 6-0 win over Ajax at the weekend. Algemeen Dagblad rated him as the best Eredivisie player of the week.
A fresh report from Algemeen Dagblad says the Newcastle owned player had a party with his girlfriend and friends at the weekend, to celebrate Feyenoord’s latest win.
The 19-year-old has been subject to criticism in the Netherlands for failing to make the right move at times on the pitch, so a little party to celebrate his success was well deserved.
Minteh has been speaking to AD and insisted that he’s made progress with Arne Slot’s side this season.
“You learn to keep an overview here. Sometimes there are three defenders and then I know that the ball has to go to a fellow player quickly. Other times I have to fight it out 1v1. I’m young and I’m here to learn, sometimes my decisions were terrible, but you learn quickly here. It’s getting better.”
Minteh’s deal at Newcastle lasts until 2028 and the Eredivisie side don’t have an option to keep him beyond this season. He’s talked about his desire to continue at Feyenoord while also insisting that Eddie Howe’s side will have the final say.
When AD asked the Gambia international if he has any wishes, Minteh explained that he wants a driving license, and again talked about the possibility of extending his stay.
“I don’t even have driving lessons yet. But you know what I think: cycling is also a kind of training. And it’s fun too, people are waving more and more,” Minteh explained.
“I can’t say anything about my future yet. We’ll see what Newcastle United, where I’m under contract, will decide. But another year in De Kuip, I wouldn’t mind that, of course,”
