On Saturday, we covered Catalan newspaper Sport featuring a big story on Manchester United interest in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
It was claimed that following Erik ten Hag’s appointment at Old Trafford, the Red Devils have now made the 24-year-old one of their priority targets for the summer window, with the outlet writing ‘there will be an offer’ for his transfer.
This subject is also covered by Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia, where a column from Lluís Canut says De Jong is about to be ‘put in the shop window’.
The journalist points out that even though the midfielder had a satisfactory time at Barcelona, he continues to be subbed-off by Xavi in most matches. That’s one of the reasons why Ten Hag, who ‘raised him’ at Ajax, could try to take him to Manchester United.
The column points out that given Barcelona’s difficult financial situation, De Jong’s sale to Manchester United should be seen ‘with good eyes’ by the Camp Nou club.
Still, the Catalan side are urged to change their negotiation policy, as they’ve been selling players for little and buying for big prices. That’s why it’s suggested that the midfielder should only go in case the club negotiate his sale for over €80m, which is the price they paid to sign him from Ajax in 2019.
