According to reports in the Italian media Lugano have overtaken Leeds United in the race to sign Cagliari defender Bartosz Salamon. Leeds United have been linked with the Poland international in recent weeks.
Calcio Casteddu have reported Lugano are in pole position to sign Salamon, despite competition from Leeds United, Avellino and Las Palmas.
At the weekend it was claimed the Swiss club had joined the race to sign the central defender, and that they are lining up a bid for the player. Salamon is expected to leave Cagliari this summer after becoming surplus to requirements at the club.
It’s been suggested in the Italian media Salamon could be used by Cagliari to sign Leeds United’s Giuseppe Bellusci. With the departure of Bruno Alves, and the imminent sale of Dario Del Fabro, the Sardinian side are interested in signing the Leeds United defender.
The 28-year-old could return to Italy this summer following his loan spell with Empoli last season, despite being part of Leeds United’s preseason. That’s the only way Leeds United interest made sense, and without Bellusci going the other way, there may be too much concern at Elland Road about other clubs pushing ahead with Salamon.
