The agent of Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci has told the Italian media he’s happy to remain at the club, but may still return to Italy this summer. The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Cagliari in recent days.

Speaking to Calcio Casteddu, Michelangelo Minieri was asked about the future of his client, following reports he could get an instant return to Serie A.

Bellusci spent last season on loan at Empoli, and even though he’s now back at Leeds United, Minieri said the player remains calm and content. Minieri believes the defender will want to go back to Italy despite having a contract with Leeds United, but confirmed as yet they’ve not heard from Cagliari, despite rumours.

“Giuseppe still has two years of contract with the English club. He is doing well and is highly respected by the management. I think he’d like to return to Italy, but again, he’s doing well where he is, with an important team. If interest from Cagliari is real then he would certainly like it, but the reality is at this time I’ve had no contact with the Rossoblu,” said the player’s agent.

Bellusci has been touted as a possible successor to Bruno Alves after the Portugal international left Cagliari for Rangers in May. With the imminent departure of Dario Del Fabro, the Sardinian club are looking to bring in a central defender or two this summer, with reports Leeds United’s Bellusci is an option.
