Everton are interested in bringing Chris Smalling back to England, with Roma now open to a sale.
That’s according to Corriere Dello Sport, who say the Giallorossi are considering the selling the centre-back after a disappointing season.
The Italian side went all out to secure Smalling on a permanent basis from Manchester United last summer after an extremely impressive loan spell the previous season.
He didn’t’ continue his form last year, though, with several injury problems meaning he had to sit out half of the campaign.
Everton have ‘shown their interest’ in ‘recent days’ and were a ‘good offer’ to arrive from Goodison Park, Pinto and new manager Jose Mourinho ‘would not oppose him departing.
Indeed, they are already eyeing up replacements, with Juventus Merih Demiral, who has also heavily been linked to Everton, at the top of their list.
He could be allowed to leave this summer with Juventus wanting to raise funds through sales. Any move, though, seems to be dependant on Smalling’s departure, who, according to Corriere dello Sport, has been ‘requested by Everton’.
