The ‘red carpet is being rolled out’ at Feyenoord, report AD, as the Eredivisie club await the return of Jordy Clasie.

Southampton have been playing as tough as they can this summer with the midfielder, but there remains a confidence at the Dutch club that a deal can be done on their terms, preferably a loan.

After Clasie’s loan to Club Brugge was largely a failure it’s left Southampton with few options for the player. It’s unlikely he’s now going to make it in the Premier League, and there’s certainly not a queue of clubs waiting to sign the 27 year old.

It’s been reported repeatedly in the Netherlands that Clasie only wants a return to Feyenoord, feeling he can get his career back on track there.

Friday’s edition of AD doesn’t speak of any advance in talks, or even a timeframe, there’s just repeated insinuations Clasie will be back soon.

Former Feyenoord player Pierre van Hooijdonk is quoted as saying: “Clasie seems to me the type that prefers to play football in the Netherlands. And what is better for him than that he will play at Feyenoord in the coming years, the club he loves and where he fits the mentality perfectly? Clasie is a pure reinforcement. Without a doubt.”

Southampton are likely to lose money on a transfer, despite paying less than £10m for the player, it’s just a question of how much and whether Feyenoord can get away with a loan first.
