As was the case last year, it appears Chelsea will be doing everything they can to sign Jules Koundé from Sevilla this summer.
The Blues need defensive reinforcements after losing both Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
The Frenchman is seemingly the number one target, and talks have been on between Chelsea and Sevilla to get a deal over the line for several weeks.
All indications are that it will be done sooner rather than later, regardless of the fact that Koundé recently underwent surgery on a hamstring/groin problem.
It’s clear to see that Thomas Tuchel is a big fan of the player, and AS explain why he’s so keen to get the player today.
Tuchel reportedly values Koundé’s ability to bring the ball out from the back ‘intensely’ as it means he can break the first lines of pressure with that first pass.
This is backed up by his ability to make ‘fluid attacking runs’, something backed up by his numbers in La Liga last season. The German, therefore, sees the defender as an improvement defensively and offensively.
It is this which has also caught the attention of Barcelona boss Xavi, who also values those abilities like Tuchel does.
Chelsea, though, have ‘arrived much earlier’ on the scene, and Koundé is keen on the move.
In fact, he has ‘already reached an agreement’ with the Blues and is ‘convinced’ about a move to the Premier League.
