With a lot of speculation these days surrounding the future of Alfredo Morelos at Rangers, it’s only normal for Steven Gerrard to be preparing for the worst.
The Colombian has been heavily linked with a move to Lille to help replace Victor Osimhen, and while no agreement has been found between the two clubs, the player is reportedly keen to give Ligue 1 go.
Should that happen, then Gerrard and his staff will turn their attention to Josh Maja, currently at Bordeaux.
The former Sunderland starlet has enjoyed a somewhat decent start to life in Ligue 1 over the past year and a bit, and it appears Rangers feel he can help replace the goals Morelos’ exit would leave them lacking.
According to former France Football journalist Hanif Berkane, who was talking to WebGirondins, the interest is truly there.
He said: “For Maja, it’s very real. I think that if Lille have made official the transfer of Morelos, the offer will quickly arrive on Bordeaux’s desk. For [Yacine] Adli, it’s different. Bordeaux will hesitate selling those two players. They’re also awaiting the arrival of Alain Roche (their new director of football). I think that if one of the two has to leave, it’ll be Maja”.
The 21-year-old has scored nine goals in 31 appearances for the French club since moving there for just over £1.5m in January 2019 in a move now made famous by the TV show Sunderland Til’ I Die.
