Loaned from Torino to Reading in the Championship for the season, Lucas Boyé is enjoying himself, even if he has yet to find the back of the net in the league.
The 23-year-old has mostly had to play second fiddle to the likes of George Puscás and Yakou Meïté this season, but still managed to score in the EFL Cup tie against Wolverhampton, which the Royals eventually lost on penalties.
Highlighted as one of the up and coming stars in Argentina back in 2014, pressure was on placed on Boyé’s back from a young age, which he spoke about with TyC Sports.
He said: “It was very hard at River because I was very young, there were many critics against me and I didn’t know how to deal with them. These days, I’d adapt better to how River play with Marcelo Gallardo. I don’t regret the decision to leave River because I needed to play at that time and wanted continuity. I hope I get a second chance at River”.
The player revealed one incident where his WhatsApp number was leaked, which was added to different groups.
He said: “They criticised me. Before, that affected me, now I’m better. Between Twitter and Instagram, I have more than 10,000 people blocked”.
However, things are now much better in England and at Reading.
He explained: “When I arrived, the Championship surprised me because the infrastructure is perfect. Reading is a typical English team. They’ve been fighting in this league for several years and the idea is to finish in the top positions”.
As things stand, Reading are 18th in the league after 19 games (they have two in hand) with 21 points, winning six, drawing three and losing the remaining 10.
