Everton’s reported interest in Diogo Dalot has quickly made its way to the Italian media, where there’s long been some confusion over what AC Milan plan to do with the player.

Loaned from Manchester United at the start of the season, there’s no purchase clause in the agreement so Milan would have to open negotiations with the Red Devils.

Claims of a €20m asking price have been met with some resistance, with Milan Live reporting it’s ‘a rather high sum’ for a player who has largely been used as a back-up for Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria.

The English view on Dalot’s time in Milan has been somewhat skewed by him being a regular in their Europa League campaign. Domestically he’s only featured in Serie A 12 times, providing rest and support to the Rossneri’s main fullbacks.

Milan pushing for another loan would perhaps be likelier than them paying something like €20m, and if Everton would be happy to part with such an amount then Carlo Ancelotti’s side would clearly have an advantage.

Of course, Manchester United have a big say and it’s still to be seen whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees a future for Dalot at Old Trafford.
