France Football claims Rangers manager Steven Gerrard recently made a trip to France.
They claim the former Liverpool midfielder was spotted at a restaurant in Rennes last Thursday and was clearly not there to try ‘la gastronomie bretonne’.
It’s claimed the Scottish Premiership club’s manager would be ‘interested’ in the profile of Stade Rennais defender Edson André Sitoe, commonly known as Mexer, for Rangers.
The centre-back’s contract will expire at the end of the season and if he does not commit his future to his current employer, the 30-year-old will be available on a free transfer.
Rennes manager Julien Stéphan is an admirer of the Mozambique international, who has been an ‘essential pillar’ in his side’s defence. His idea is to retain the player beyond this season by offering him a new deal.
France Football claims Rangers are believed to be one of the clubs ‘interested’ in Mexer and whether or not they will able to convince him to join them is to be seen. The report, however, does not specify if Gerrard met the player during his trip to France.
Rennes defeated Paris Saint-Germain on penalties in the Coupe de France final and it was Mexer’s equaliser in the second half that forced the game to be decided by shootouts.
