Striker Deniz Undav may have played himself out of a permanent exit from Brighton and Hove Albion, with his price continuing to rise at Stuttgart.

That’s according to Kicker, who cover the German side’s interest in striker Justin Diehl and how he may be eyed up as an alternative to the Brighton loanee.

Undav is currently on loan with the German club after joining them in the summer following a disappointing first year with the Seagulls.

The move has worked out well for all parties, with Undav bagging 10 goals and three assists in 15 games this season despite mostly playing as the alternative to Serhou Guirassy.

That’s seen his value continue to steadily rise, with it explained in various reports this month that Stuttgart will need to pay over €20m to secure him on a permanent basis.

Kicker now say such a figure may prove to be too much for the German side to swallow and they’re looking at other options.

They explain that the club are planning for life without Guirassy, who has interest from across Europe, while Undav is ‘only on loan’ from Brighton at this point and it is ‘quite possible’ that he will prove to be too expensive for a permanent commitment.

That’s why they may be looking at the likes of Diehl as a cheaper alternative, with the striker not averse to the move should the opportunity arise.

Either way, the doubt around Undav is there and a transfer that looked like an absolute certainty to happen at some point in the coming months may no longer be quite as pre-determined as first thought.
