Julen Lopetegui is hoping that reports linking him with a potential move to Manchester United continue and has made them his ‘great priority’ moving forwards.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the Spaniard is ‘licking his lips’ at the prospect of taking charge at Old Trafford.

The website explains that Lopetegui had been in no hurry to sign up to his next project after leaving Wolves earlier this year.

He continues to reside in England and has made it clear he wants to continue working in the Premier League following his time at Molineux.

No jobs here have emerged as yet, but the phone has not stopped ringing, with the Spaniard turning down several opportunities, including a lucrative one with Al-Ittihad.

That’s because he is ‘licking his lips’ at the prospect of arriving at Manchester United, where Erik ten Hag continues to find himself under pressure.

According to Estadio, Lopetegui’s ‘desire’ is to continue being linked with an elite English club such as the Red Devils rather than anything more modest.

They state that Lopetegui is well thought of by those in charge at Old Trafford and he is a ‘serious candidate’ to take charge should they, and particularly Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team, decide to remove Ten Hag. He would also be ahead of the likes of Roberto De Zerbi and Graham Potter.

Whether Manchester United actually move for him remains to be seen but it seems Lopetegui has his heart set either way.
