Questions marks have been raised in the Dutch media about the future of Vitesse goalkeeper Eloy Room.

The 28 year old didn’t extend his contract, which ends next summer, at the end of last season and has been linked with Everton in recent weeks.

De Telegraaf have reported Room’s position as the club’s first choice goalkeeper is under threat due to the arrival of Remko Pasveer this summer. The 33 year old has played in most of Vitesse’s preseason matches, and Pasveer will be expected to remain the Dutch side’s No.1 when the season starts.

Just over a week ago we covered reports from the Netherlands that Everton are looking to sign Room as their third choice, with Joel Robles looking for a return to Spain.

Everton have already signed Jordan Pickford, and with Maarten Stekelenburg as back up to the England U21 international, Room would be brought in as Koeman’s third choice goalkeeper.

It was suggested in the Dutch press Everton would have to offer up to €1.7m to sign the Vitesse player, and there was a lot of confidence a deal could be done.

De Telegraaf say Room called in sick on Thursday, and it’s unknown when he’s expected to be back.
