Argentinian president Javier Milei has claimed Manchester City have made a ‘concrete’ offer to buy an Argentinian football club and add them to the City Group network.
That’s according to Bolavip, who cover comments from the controversial president today in conversation with LN+.
Milei is currently in something of a battle with the lawmakers in Argentina over his attempts to privatise Argentinian football clubs and bring in outside investment.
The proposal has so far been blocked by lawmakers in the country and has been strongly opposed by the clubs themselves, who would prefer to remain as civil associations owned by their members.
He’s already claimed that Chelsea are interested in buying a side, with them already part of a multi-club ownership model under Todd Boehly and Clearlake.
Now he’s thrown Manchester City into the mix too, insisting that the City Group have already made a concrete proposal to add a team to their ever-expanding network.
“I think there is a caste in Argentine football and the best way to put an end to that is to introduce competition,” he said.
“Our Sports Joint Stock Companies project does not prevent clubs from existing as they are today, but it gives the possibility of other companies existing.
“We have concrete offers, Manchester City itself wants to buy a club in Argentina, a very big club. If they were clean, they would allow competition, but because they are dirty, they don’t allow competition.”
