Tottenham remain ‘interested in’ keeping Clement Lenglet at the club next season but a deal for the defender ‘is not progressing’.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the Frenchman is set to join Barcelona’s pre-season training camp on July 10th.

The newspaper explains that the Catalans are working hard to reduce the squad and bring in much needed funds with which to do their own transfer business this summer.

There are ‘several open folders’ in this regard, with the club’s sporting management trying to close them as soon as possible.

They’re starting with the players who were away on loan last season and that includes Lenglet, who spent the season with Tottenham.

He is one of the players who ‘is not convincing’ as far as they or manager Xavi are concerned, and they’d like to get him off the books permanently if they can.

The 28-year-old ‘had a good season’ with Tottenham and the Premier League side are ‘interested in keeping him’ but so far, the operation ‘does not progress’ and thus the Frenchman will be joining them for pre-season in two days’ time.

He is ‘not nervous’ about the situation and ‘does not hesitate’ to stay at the Camp Nou if an attractive offer does not arrive that convinces him ‘economically and sportingly’.

Whether Tottenham fit the bill remains to be seen but it appears a deal that once looked like a guarantee is very much stuck in the mud.
