The Brazilian media today reveals that Flamengo are in talks to sign Matheus Martins.

The 20-year-old, who belongs to Udinese, has been having a loan spell at Watford since he arrived in Europe in January 2023.

Tupi writes that Flamengo are actually close to confirming the signing, as they’ve been speaking to the player while he’s on holiday in Rio de Janeiro.

Their idea is to get a loan with an option to buy, and they now need to find an agreement with Udinese.

The Italian club never used him, as they spent €6m to get him from Fluminense and immediately loaned him out to Watford.

It just seems that the Pozzo family had been confident of an investment in him, regardless of at which club he could succeed.

Featuring for Watford this season, he had six goals and two assists in 43 appearances. At 20, it sounds a little early for him to give up on the dream of succeeding in European football, but playing for Flamengo is surely very attractive as well, so it should be no surprise if he accepts that.
