On June 3rd, Tuttosport reported Southampton have informed Welington’s agent of their desire to sign the São Paulo player. The Saints are set to provide competition to Torino in the race this summer.

It was also said the 23-year-old isn’t planning to sign a new deal as his desire is to leave the club this summer. His contract lasts until the end of December and this could force São Paulo to cash in from his sale in this window.

Two days later, we covered claims from Brazil that stated the left-back has agreed terms with Southampton.

A fresh report from Tuttosport states the Serie A side are expected to miss out on the player as he’s heading ‘towards Southampton’.

It’s claimed Russell Martin’s side have started ‘on pole’ in the race to sign the Brazilian. Tuttosport then questions whether the Saints will be able to finish in the pole position by agreeing a deal with São Paulo.

Southampton haven’t secured a deal with the South American club and until then, the report says Torino technical director Davide Vagnati isn’t willing to give up on Welington.
