Hertha Berlin’s Jonjoe Kenny has reached a verbal agreement with Sheffield United and has been waiting for the two clubs to find an agreement.
The Championship side made an offer of €600,000 plus €600,000 bonuses if they return to the top division. The second division German club, on the other hand, requested €2m.
Two days ago, Bild stated Sheffield United gave an ultimatum until Wednesday to Hertha over a deal for the right-back.
A fresh report from Bild backs that up and then states the defender’s move to Bramall Lane is ‘almost cancelled’.
The Englishman has been dreaming of joining Chris Wilder’s side, but the deal is as good as off. They had given an ultimatum to Hertha, in order find a different right-back if the deal for the 27-year-old collapses.
Sheffield United couldn’t agree a deal with Kenny’s club and broke off negotiations as they found their €2m price to be high. This has seen them look for alternatives in the market.
Bild state Kenny will need a ‘small miracle’ to join the Championship club in this window.
His contract expires at the end of this season and he isn’t planning to sign a new deal. At this moment in time, there are ‘no winners’ and the two parties ‘come away empty handed’.
Hertha will miss out on making cash and also have to pay €500,000 in wages until the end of the season.
