On Monday, we carried a report from Het Laatste Nieuws, who explained Arsenal are ‘crazy about’ Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans.
It was also stated the north London club have held ‘positive’ talks with the 25-year-old’s camp.
Arsenal’s interest in the Leicester City star has been discussed repeatedly over the past few months. On March 28th, Het Belang van Limburg reported the Gunners and Manchester United are keen to sign him.
HBVL also stressed that qualifying for the Champions League remains key for either Mikel Arteta’s side, or the Red Devils, to secure the midfielder’s services. The Emirates club now seem to be ahead of Manchester United in the transfer chase.
According to Voetbalkrant, the possibility of the Belgium international making a switch to Old Trafford is ‘no longer an option’ because of Manchester United’s decline. Arsenal, on the other hand, remain an option for Brendan Rodgers’ man.
It’s claimed the Leicester star’s ‘transfer to Arsenal is taking shape’, and the talks between Arteta’s side and his agent ‘go smoothly’. The player, however, is yet to give the go ahead for the move.
Tielemans wants certainty that Arsenal will play in Europe’s elite club competition next season and only then he will ‘effectively give his blessing to materialise the transfer’.
Arsenal are in fourth spot, four points ahead of fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur, after 35 matches. A win over Spurs later this week will ensure a top four finish for the Emirates club.
