Earlier this month, we carried a report from Sport, who claimed Barcelona were willing to allow Jasper Cillessen to leave the club this summer, if they receive a fee of around €30m, despite him having a €60m release clause at the Camp Nou.
Mundo Deportivo reported on July 14th that offers will be studied for the player if and when they arrive. Liverpool have been the club most linked to the Dutchman this summer.
Today’s edition of Catalan newspaper Sport claims Cillessen no longer wants to be Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s understudy at Barcelona. Therefore, the 29-year-old wants to leave his current employer in order to get more playing time.
Ernesto Valverde has already informed the former Ajax man that he needs to bring in a bid of around €30m to sanction his sale. The player has ‘offers’ from the Premier League, but not from Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Cillessen has been ‘waiting for Liverpool’ to make an approach for his services. The offer that is currently on the table is less attractive than the Reds, sporting wise. He would prefer to join the Merseyside club over the other options available in the summer transfer window.
There’s every chance Liverpool are keeping Cillessen as a back-up option in case they can’t sign AS Roma’s Alisson.
