Miguel Almirón is set to leave Newcastle United for Atlanta United in the winter market.
Two days ago, we covered claims from South America which stated the MLS side had agreed a $12m deal with the Magpies. It was also reported the winger will travel this week to carry out transfer formalities with his new club.
Versus in Paraguay state the Newcastle player has already cleared the medical tests with Atlanta United.
They add Almirón will travel to the United States in the ‘next few hours’ to complete his move to the MLS side. This indicates the 30-year-old underwent medical tests somewhere away from the US.
The Paraguay international spent two years at the American club before joining Newcastle in January 2019. The latest developments now bring him closer to sealing a return.
Almirón will sign a four-year contract at Atlanta United and this is one of the reasons that convinced him to join them. That’s according to the attacker’s agent, Daniel Campos, and he revealed this during an interview with Tigo Sports.
“It’s a big step because he had some very good moments there. It’s a very organised club, people idolise him, he got a long-term contract, which is what he was looking for,” he said, relayed by Versus.
“He’s going to be the one in charge of this team, they are putting together a competitive team.”
