Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet has heavily been linked with a move to Barcelona in the past few months. The Frenchman’s move to then Camp Nou is now set be completed soon.
On Monday, we mentioned about a report from Sport talking about a counter offer made by the Andalusian club to keep Sevilla at Lenglet. Today’s edition of the same publication claims the player has rejected the opportunity to sign a new deal with his current employers.
Lenglet took time over the weekend to reflect on his future. According to the claims, the centre-back has made it known to Sevilla through his representative that he has no plans to continue at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán. The former Nancy defender has set his sights on playing for the La Liga winners.
Sevilla will play in the Europa League play-offs because of which they have decided to start the pre-season preparation early, on July 3rd.
After Lenglet communicated his decision to leave Sevilla, the negotiations between the executives of Barcelona and Pablo Machin’s side have already started.
The talks between the two clubs is to see if Sevilla would be open to the idea of taking the fee in instalments or if Barcelona has to pay the full release clause, which is €30m.
If they are willing to take the first option, then the Spanish champions are willing to pay €5m more to secure Lenglet’s signature. Lenglet is set to become Barcelona’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
