Last week we covered claims from Portugal that Manchester United have a £35m ‘agreement in principle’ to sign Nelson Semedo from Benfica in the summer transfer window.
It would be no surprise if Manchester United add a right back, and Semedo is a good candidate, but there’s always the suspicion Benfica are out to use Manchester United’s name to drum up interest.
Nevertheless, it can’t be denied that Manchester United’s scouting of Portuguese football is verging on obsessive. As Benfica beat Nacional 3-0 on Sunday, it was no surprise that Jose Mourinho’s club had someone in attendance.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola unsurprisingly say Semedo and Victor Lindelof will have been on the agenda. Of the two, A Bola believe Semedo performed slightly better and explain he put in a good attacking performance from right back.
Semedo, 23 years of age, has four assists and 1 goal from 20 league games so far this season. He also added a goal against Besiktas in the Champions League, a game in which he was Man of the Match.
