Emi Buendia looks like he could really be leaving Cultural Leonesa this month, at least if he gets his own way.
The Argentine is supposed to be on loan at the Spanish club until the end of the season, but he’s found himself in some trouble recently.
Leeds United have been the club named as a potential destination by some reports (as covered here), with no other clubs yet thrown in.
Leo Noticias report Buendia wants to leave Cultural because he longer feels comfortable playing for the club. He’s initiated an exit process by contacting parent club Getafe and asking them to find him a new home for the second half of the season.
After the contact, Getafe are now considering sending Buendia to ‘a team of the Championship’.
Leeds United aren’t named directly but given they are in other reports, and are the only Championship club to have been linked to the player, it doesn’t take a great leap.
Buendia is uncomfortable after being part of a recent Cultural scandal. The 21 year old recorded teammate Yelko Pino as saying things including: “I sh*t on the Cultural wh*re.”
He then uploaded to social media which obviously caused a huge backlash leading to Buendia explaining it was all out of context, and Pino being transferred a division further down.
Buendia was born in Argentina but has a Spanish passport, so there’d be no worries for Leeds United over a work permit.
