Everyone wants a piece of the David Alaba transfer saga action, and France Football are no different.
It’s no secret the Austria international is out of contract at the end of the season, and with a renewal now seemingly off the cards, the rumours are swirling.
Manchester City, managed by ex-Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola, have been pulled into it, as have the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The two Spanish giants are reportedly said to be the player’s preferred destinations if he gets to the option to sign for either, as has been reported a bit everywhere, but there’s still a chance he could head to England.
That’s what France Football say on Monday, giving their readers a big overview of the situation, breaking down the various steps that have been taken so far, including Bayern refusing to give Alaba the same wages as Robert Lewandowski.
Hasan Salihamidžić has made it clear he fears the defender leaving on a free, which is where Manchester City could end up being beneficiaries.
France Football state that ‘while he dreams of joining Barcelona or Real Madrid, he could join Pep Guardiola’ at the Etihad.
That is, of course, unless ‘Paris Saint-Germain, very interested, manage to seduce him’.
With Barcelona short of cash and Real Madrid not overly desperate for an expensive defender, it might just be Manchester City who walk away the winners here, all depending on how attractive Alaba views a move to Ligue 1.
He could even sign with someone that isn’t on this list, but it would be very surprising if Guardiola didn’t at least try to make an attempt to reunite with one of his former protégés.
