Watford forward Ignacio Pussetto has insisted he wanted Sampdoria straight away when it was clear he would be leaving Vicarage Road this summer.

The Argentine joined the Italian side on loan on deadline day of the summer transfer window, his second straight loan move away from Watford.

He joined the Hornets from Udinese in January 2020 but was then loaned back to the Pozzo’s another club.

That deal came to an end this summer and he returned to Watford, but it was made clear he was not a part of their plans moving forwards.

They were therefore happy to loan him out once again, and Sampdoria completed that move yesterday, with Pussetto joining until June next year.

He will be keen to impress again in Italy, having racked up 15 assists and 11 goals in 94 games across his two spells with Udinese.

It’s surprising that he was not sent there once again given the links with the Pozzo family, but he insists his eyes were always elsewhere.

“I chose Sampdoria from the outset, I like the mentality of the club and its history,” he told Sky Sport Italy, relayed by Club Doria.

“I am sorry it happened on the last day, but this was a long and difficult market, but I am very happy to be here. Now I’ll make myself available to the coach for the next game.”
