It’s been whirlwind few weeks for Wilfred Ndidi. Rumours about a transfer to Leicester City originated in Belgium, and after things went quiet for a few days… it was then reported a January transfer had been agreed.
If that wasn’t enough, for some reason the two clubs decided Ndidi had to undergo his medical well before the window opens. At the beginning of last week, the midfielder was given time off from Genk to travel to Leicester and complete a medical.
That obviously received a lot of attention in Belgium, with there being some irritation that Genk were prioritising getting a big transfer fee from Leicester City over having Ndidi fully concentrated on some important matches before his switch.
On Friday, Ndidi turned 20 years of age, and on Sunday played for Genk in a 2-2 draw against Zulte Waregem.
He picked up a booking which means he misses the next match, and Het Beland van Limburg say the player was ‘very emotional’ after the match.
The newspaper picture Ndidi draped in a Nigerian flag and it looked very much like he was saying his goodbyes to Genk.
Ndidi could probably do with a week or so in which nothing happens.
